USEFUL TIPS TO HELP AVOID BITING INSECT

The following suggestions are a variety of ways that you can protect yourself from being bitten or stung whilst on holiday.

  • Don't wear perfume or scented products
  • Insects are attracted to brightly coloured, patterned or dark clothing. Try wearing light colours such as pastels, white or khaki.
  • In grassy, bushy or wooded areas, wear clothes of tightly woven fabric, tuck your trousers legs into your socks and your long-sleeved shirt into your trousers.
  • Inspect your clothes and exposed skin often for ticks while you are out, and when you get back to base.
  • Wear a hat to keep gnats away.
  • Insect repellents, such as Autan, can keep biting insects at bay.
  • In areas with large infestations of biting insects, you may want to use an insect repellent on not only exposed skin but also under your clothing.
  • Cover up your soft drinks so the insects can't get into the open container and cover sweet foods to minimise the attraction to insects.
  • Dispose of your rubbish thoughtfully, in properly sealed waste units if possible and ensure lids are tightly on.

Prevention is better than cure for some insect borne diseases, so always apply your Autan Insect Repellent before going out to make sure that you and your family are properly protected!
